Juki TL2010Q – An Overview

Juki 2010Q is a semi-industrial heavy duty sewing machine. It can sew up to 1500 stitches per minute. Sewing speed can be adjusted using the speed control slider. You can set the speed anywhere between 200 to 1500 stitches per minute. Sewing speed can also be controlled using the foot pedal, in case that’s your thing.

Juki 2010Q does a pretty good job sewing through multiple layers of tough fabric. It is a favorite amongst quilters for this reason.

Juki TL 2010Q also has a larger throat area than what you’ll find on most sewing machines. This adds to the ease of maneuvering a quilt on it.

Juki 2010 does an outstanding job with fabrics of different textures and thicknesses. You can sew sailcloth, leather, denim, vinyl, or even crepe de chine with the same ease and effortlessness.

Quality of Sewing

Like most semi-industrial machines, Juki TL2010Q is a single needle lockstitch machine. This means that 2 threads are used to lock the fabric in place. One thread is in the needle and the other one is in the bobbin. When clothing labels say ‘single needle stitching,’ this is what it means. You can be sure that a professional machine like Juki TL-2010Q was used for sewing the garment.

Since this is a straight-stitch only machine, there are no other built-in stitches. The good news is that Juki 2010 is outstanding at the one thing it is designed to do. You can expect it to do the classic straight stitch with consistency and accuracy.

If you are a professional, then you’ll surely be able to tell the difference. The stitches are extremely even and perfectly spaced. Even when you’re working with multiple layers of fabric, the stitching remains flawless.

Stability and Durability

Juki TL2010Q is not a lightweight machine. It is still portable enough to be carried from one room to another. The arm and bed of this sewing machine are made of heavy duty die-cast aluminum. This provides a tremendous amount of stability to Juki TL-2010Q. It should not vibrate or rattle even when you are sewing heavy duty fabrics.

The presence of metal components contributes to the overall durability of the machine. Juki 2010Q is a sturdy and robust machine that should stand the test of time.

Suitability for Heavy Duty Sewing and Quilting

Juki TL2010Q reviews state that it is an ideal machine for heavy duty sewing. It does an equally fantastic job with regular sewing. But when you are dealing with tough fabrics, that’s when you get to truly put this machine to test.

The even feed foot helps in tackling difficult to feed fabrics. This includes lightweight and slippery fabrics like velvet or georgette. It also helps with heavyweight fabrics like leather or upholstery material.

Juki TL2010Q is often marketed as a quilting machine. It comes with several presser foot attachments for quilting. The large throat space and wide work area add to the ease of quilting on this machine

Tension Control

There is a tension scale and a sub tension lever on Juki TL2010Q. You can customize the tension settings to match the weight of the fabric you are working with.

Speed Control

Juki TL2010Q has a built-in speed control slider. You can set the speed between 200 to 1500 stitches per minute. Hence, you don’t have to worry about maintaining the right amount of pressure on the foot pedal.

For those who want to use the foot pedal for speed control, it’s possible to do so as well.

Needle Up/Down Function

You can set the needle to stop in either the down or the up position. This is helpful to make sure that every time you stop sewing, you get the needle to finish the stitch at the right place.

Knee Lifter Lever

A lot of sewers love this feature. You can lift or lower the presser foot without using your hands. It’s literally like having an extra pair of hands working for you.

Presser Foot Attachments

Juki TL2010Q comes with several presser foot attachments. This includes an even feed/walking foot, a 1/4 inch quilting foot, and a zipper foot.

You also have the option to buy additional presser foot attachments. Juki TL2010Q is a versatile machine that can be used for just about any type of sewing.

Needle Threader

Juki TL2010Q has an automatic needle threader. Truth be told, this feature is not easy to use. Most people need time to figure out how to get it to work.

Bobbin System

Juki TL2010Q has a side-loading bobbin system. A lot of people find it less easy to use this kind of a bobbin system versus a top drop-in bobbin system. However, for seasoned sewers and professionals, this shouldn’t be an issue.

The good news is that winding and loading the bobbin is a breeze on this machine.

How Does it Compare?

Let us see how Juki TL2010Q fairs in comparison with its peers.

Juki TL2000Qi

This is a cheaper version of Juki TL-2010Q. It has all the same features except a few that are missing. The main difference between the two machines is that Juki 2000Qi doesn’t have a speed control slider. Hence, you have to rely solely on the foot pedal for speed control.

The other difference is that Juki TL2010Q offers more options to fine-tune the tension settings. There is a pre-tension disc through which the thread must pass before entering the actual tension discs. Hence, you have greater control over thread tension. If you are a professional then this could be a major deal-breaker for you.

My opinion is that Juki TL2010Q offers better value-for-money than Juki TL-2000Qi. However, if Juki 2010Q is outside your budget, then you can surely consider Juki TL-2000Qi as an alternative.

Brother PQ1500SL

Brother PQ1500SL is a good heavy duty sewing machine. It is much cheaper than Juki TL2010Q. Hence, it doesn’t offer the same level of quality and performance. But it is still a good machine with several great features.

Brother PQ1500SL can sew up to 1500 stitches per minute just like Juki TL2010Q. It also has adjustable presser foot pressure and automatic needle up/down function.

There are a few key differences between the two machines. Brother PQ1500SL doesn’t allow you to fine-tune tension settings to the same extent as Juki 2010Q does. A lot of users have reported facing tension problems with Brother PQ1500SL.

There is also no speed control slider on Brother PQ1500SL. If Juki TL2010Q is not in your current budget, then Brother PQ1500SL is a decent option to take into consideration.

Juki Exceed F600

Juki Exceed F600 is an advanced computerized sewing machine with 225 stitch patterns. This includes 4 lettering fonts and 16 buttonhole styles. It is slightly more expensive than Juki TL2010Q.

Juki Exceed F600 offers the quality and reliability of the Juki brand. I would say this is a machine for someone who is looking for a high-end sewing machine with bells and whistles.

Juki Exceed F600 is surely a feature-packed computerized sewing machine.

However, I would still recommend going with Juki TL2010Q. Mechanical sewing machines are easier to maintain than computerized sewing machines. They are also generally more durable and long-lasting.
