Singer 4432 Review

Singer 4432 is a popular heavy duty sewing machine at a decent price. This machine is feature-packed. It has the essentials that a good heavy duty sewing machine should boast of.

Singer Heavy Duty 4432 comes with 32 built-in stitches and can sew up to 1100 stitches per minute. It is good for both regular and heavy duty sewing.

Thanks to the metal components, Singer 4432 is durable and long-lasting.

Is Singer 4432 the Right Sewing Machine for You?

I think Singer 4432 is a good fit for people who are in the market for a heavy duty sewing machine on a budget. It is also a great choice for those who want a durable sewing machine for versatile sewing projects.

Who is This Sewing Machine for?

Singer 4432 sewing machine:

  • Those who want a good heavy duty sewing machine on a modest budget
  • Anyone who wants a long-lasting and durable machine
  • Someone who is looking for a machine that can sew fast
  • People who want to sew thick fabrics
  • Anyone who wants a trustworthy machine for both heavy duty and lightweight fabrics
  • Sewers looking for a reliable machine for versatile sewing projects

Who is This Sewing Machine Not for?

Singer sewing machine 4432 is not ideal for:

  • Pros who are looking to sew numerous layers of very thick fabric (you’d be better off with a semi-industrial machine, like Juki TL-2010Q)
  • Sewers who feel nervous about controlling sewing speed with a foot pedal
  • People who do heavy duty sewing for hours on end every day. There is only so much that this machine can handle. You can’t compare its durability with that of high-end semi-industrial machines
  • Anyone who is in the market for a machine with too many bells and whistles. This machine is quite basic

Singer 4432 Heavy Duty Sewing Machine – An Overview

Singer 4432 features 32 built-in stitches. You have the choice of 18 decorative, 1 automatic buttonhole, 7 stretch, and 6 utility stitches. You receive 4 presser foot attachments (all-purpose, zipper, button sewing and buttonhole foot).

I think that’s a good enough selection to see you through a large number of sewing projects. Using the one-step buttonhole feature, you can make buttonholes of a consistent size.

You can adjust the presser foot pressure to match the thickness of the fabric you are working with. This machine does a great job with both delicate and tough fabrics. The stainless steel bedplate allows the fabric to glide effortlessly over the machine’s surface.

Affordable Heavy Duty Sewing Machine

Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine 4432 retails at a very reasonable price. Only the Singer brand offers quality heavy duty sewing machines in this price range.

Most Singer 4432 reviews state that this machine is easy to operate. Hence, even a total beginner can get started with it. I think it is a great investment for a beginner.

Built-in Stitches

Singer 4432 has 32 built-in stitches. You have at your disposal 6 utility, 18 decorative, 1 automatic buttonhole, and 7 stretch stitches.

Of course, this is nothing over-the-top. But I think it’s more than enough for most people. Most sewists admit that they don’t use more than a handful of stitches.

Stability and Durability

Singer 4432 is made mostly out of metal. The internal metal skeleton imparts greater stability to the machine.

Nothing is more annoying than a machine that vibrates all over the place while you are working on it. You can expect to have a relatively rattle-free sewing experience on this machine.

The presence of metal parts also contributes to the durability of the machine. Hence, in the long run, you will be spending less. You wouldn’t have to bear a crazy amount of repair and replacement costs.

Sewing Speed

As discussed earlier, Singer 4432 offers a sewing speed of up to 1100 stitches per minute. That’s a really good number. Faster sewing directly translates into quicker execution of projects.

Speed can be controlled only through the foot pedal. There is no speed control slider to ease things in this regard. For some people, the foot pedal might require a bit of acclimatization. However, it’s nothing impossible.

Modifiable Stitch Length and Width

Longer stitch lengths (4-5mm) are used for tasks like topstitching and basting. You also need to adjust the stitch length depending upon the kind of fabric you are sewing. For instance, while sewing leather, you’d select a longer stitch length

Stitch width (size of the stitch from side to side) is also helpful in modifying the effects you get with the end product. Stitch length and width are adjustable up to 6mm on Singer 4432.

Presser Foot Attachments

Singer 4432 comes with 4 presser foot attachments. The all-purpose or universal foot is used for most of the basic (forward-feed) projects. The zipper foot is used for inserting zippers.

You can use the button sewing foot for attaching buttons. The buttonhole foot helps in gauging the correct buttonhole size. You have to place the button inside the foot. This makes it incredibly easy to sew accurate buttonholes in 1 easy step.

Variable Presser Foot Pressure

You can set the amount of pressure the presser foot would exert on the fabric. Different fabrics call for different levels of pressure. This feature can strongly influence your results.

Needle Positions

There are 3 positions for the needle. You can set the needle position to get different effects with your stitching. For instance, you might need different needle positions for topstitching, edge stitching, sewing zippers, etc.

Reverse Stitch Lever

This feature allows you to sew in reverse. It is very helpful for securing seams and for making stitches more secure.

Built-in Needle Threader

Singer 4432 comes with an automatic needle threader. The automatic needle threader has always been a controversial sewing machine feature. Some people swear by it and others despise it with a vengeance. The situation isn’t that much different for this sewing machine. Hence, you’ll just have to use it and find out which group you identify with.

Drop-Feed Mechanism

You can drop or lower the feed dogs when they are not needed. This is useful when you are sewing buttons, darning pants or quilting.

Bobbin System

Singer 4432 has a top drop-in bobbin system. Most people find a top drop-in bobbin system to be infinitely easier to use than its front-loading counterpart. The bobbin and bobbin cover are made of transparent material. Hence, you can easily keep an eye on your thread supply.

How Does it Compare?

Let us find out how Singer 4432 fairs in comparison with its peers.

Singer 4452

Singer 4452 has all the features that you get with Singer 4432. They don’t differ much in terms of cost either. However, Singer 4452 also comes with a bonus heavy duty optimized accessories kit.

You get a walking foot that aids in sewing multiple layers of fabric. There’s a non-stick foot for tackling vinyl and leather. The clearance plate comes in handy when you are sewing heavy seams. There’s also a 5-pack of size 16 needles. This needle size is compatible with a lot of thick fabrics.

I think Singer 4452 offers greater value-for-money. I would recommend it over Singer 4432, especially since they don’t differ that much in price.

Singer 4423

Singer 4423 is also similar to Singer 4432. It has the same core features and offers the same sewing speed. However, on Singer 4423 you get 23 built-in stitches. Due to this fact, Singer 4423 retails at a slightly lower price than Singer 4432.

Both machines are constructed mostly out of metal. They offer the same level of durability and stability. On both machines, you can modify the stitch length and width.

Singer 4423 could save you some moolah if you don’t care about having fewer stitches. You can read my detailed review of Singer 4423 here.

Juki TL-2010Q

Juki TL-2010Q is a professional quality heavy duty sewing machine. Professional sewists around the world love this sewing machine. It sews like butter and offers a sewing speed of about 1500 stitches per minute. Speed can be controlled with a speed control slider.

To be honest, there isn’t much of a comparison between Singer 4432 and Juki TL-2010Q. Juki TL-2010Q is in a different league altogether. This is the machine for you if you want to do some serious heavy duty sewing. Like, if you want to sew layers and layers of very thick fabric. Juki TL-2010Q can take just about anything.

Singer 4432 can only take so much. It is best suited to the hobby sewer who wants an economical heavy duty sewing machine.

Juki TL-2010Q may or may not fit into your budget. But I wanted to include this option as it is definitely the best heavy duty sewing machine in the market.
