Singer 4452 is a versatile sewing machine available at a reasonable price. It is great for both beginners and intermediate sewers. The motor is 60% stronger than what you would find on regular sewing machines.
Singer 4452 can sew up to 1100 stitches per minute. That’s quite an impressive speed. It is versatile enough to do a great job at both regular and heavy duty sewing.
Is Singer 4452 the Right Sewing Machine for You?
I think Singer 4452 is a great sewing machine for beginner to intermediate sewers. It is especially great for people who work with both lightweight and thick fabrics.
Who is This Sewing Machine for?
Singer 4452 is ideal for:
- Beginner to intermediate/advanced sewers
- Anyone who works with both lightweight and heavy duty fabrics
- Those who are in the market for a decent and reasonably priced heavy duty sewing machine
- Sewers looking for a sturdy and durable machine
- Someone who wants a fast machine (this machine sews up to 1100 stitches per minute)
- People who want a sturdy machine that is also portable enough for everyday life
Who is This Sewing Machine Not for?
Singer 4452 is not ideal for:
- Professional sewers who sew for long hours every day
- Someone who does professional level heavy duty sewing. For instance, manufacturers of upholstery or leather goods. A semi-industrial machine like the Juki TL-2010Q would be a better choice for them
- Anyone who wants to sew multiple levels of very thick fabric. Like, more than 2 layers of thick leather or upholstery fabric
- Those who are not comfortable controlling the sewing speed with the foot pedal alone. For them, a machine with a speed control slider would be a better option
Singer 4452 Heavy Duty Sewing Machine – An Overview
Singer 4452 comes with 32 built-in stitches. You get 6 basic, 18 decorative, 7 stretch, and 1 automatic one-step buttonhole style stitch.
You also receive a wide selection of presser foot attachments (even feed/walking, non-stick, zipper, buttonhole, and an all-purpose foot).
These features make Singer 4452 suitable for a wide range of sewing projects. You can do almost anything with this machine. It would take to quilting just as easily as it would tackle thin fabrics like satin. This heavy duty sewing machine also does a decent job with denim and leather sewing.

Heavy Duty Sewing Machine at a Great Price
Singer Heavy Duty 4452 is available at an extremely competitive price. It offers tremendous value-for-money.
However, I must put a warning here. This is not the kind of heavy duty machine you would buy if you are a professional sewer. It is not made for that level of daily use. Singer 4452 is also not very good with anything more than 2 layers of very thick fabric.
If you are a professional heavy duty sewer, then I would suggest opting for a sturdier machine. You might want to check out my detailed guide to the best heavy duty sewing machines here.
Build Quality and Durability
Since this machine is made mostly out of metal, it is quite durable. Of course, you can’t compare the build-quality with that of semi-industrial heavy duty sewing machines. But it is still good enough to last you for a while.
The internal skeleton is made of metal. This provides ample stability to the machine. Hence, it doesn’t vibrate or rattle that much while sewing.
The stainless steel bedplate has a smooth surface. It allows the fabric to glide easily when you are sewing.
This is one of the best features of Singer 4452. It can sew up to 1100 stitches per minute. This means that you can complete your projects faster and with greater ease.
The downside is that speed can only be controlled with the foot pedal. There is no speed control slider on Singer 4452.
Hence, you must be able to apply the right amount of pressure on the foot pedal to maintain a consistent speed. For some people, this is difficult. However, with practice, anyone can get a hang of it.
As discussed earlier, Singer 4452 has 32 built-in stitches. There are 18 decorative, 7 stretch, 6 basic, and 1 one-step buttonhole style stitch. This is a wide enough selection for most projects you will be doing.
Option to Adjust Stitch Length and Width
You can decrease or increase the distance between stitches (stitch length). This is great for achieving different effects; like when you are basting or appliquéing. It is also advisable to select a large stitch length when you are sewing leather.
Singer 4452 also offers the option to alter the stitch width. Width is defined as the stitch that sews from side to side/left to right. You can make the stitch sew wider or narrower as per your liking. Again, this is great for achieving different stitching effects on your finished product.
Presser Foot Attachments
Singer 4452 comes with several presser foot attachments (even feed/walking, non-stick, zipper, buttonhole, and an all-purpose foot). This is a wide enough selection for diverse sewing projects.
This machine also boasts of an extra high presser foot lifter. This feature helps with accommodating multiple layers of thick fabric. It is great for maneuvering large projects.
Adjustable Presser Foot Pressure
This is a very helpful feature. It helps you alter the presser foot pressure depending upon the fabric you are dealing with.
Adjusting the pressure helps in smoothly feeding the fabric through the machine.
Reverse Stitch Lever
You can sew in reverse for securing a seam in place. The seam gets secured at the beginning and the end. This prevents it from unraveling.
3 Different Needle Positions
You can set the needle position for different sewing techniques. For instance, you can choose the appropriate position for edge stitching, top stitching, zipper application, etc.
Built-in Needle Threader
Singer 4452 does have a built-in needle threader. In Singer 4452 reviews, a lot of people have said that they find it easy to use. Yet, others have a hard time with it.
Honestly, I think this is the case with just about any sewing machine. There is always a group of people who find it easy to use. And there is another group that despises it with a vengeance. You might have to figure out where you belong.
Singer 4452 has a top drop-in bobbin system. Most people find these easier to use than front-loading bobbin systems. Winding the bobbin is also quite straightforward and easy. The transparent bobbin and bobbin cover allow you to monitor thread supply.
The feed dogs can be disengaged when they are not needed. This is very helpful when you want to do free motion-quilting or while darning pants, sewing buttons, etc.
How Does it Compare?
Let us explore how Singer 4452 compares with other heavy duty sewing machines.
This is a cheaper version of Singer Heavy Duty 4452. The main difference between the two machines is that Singer Heavy Duty 4423 has only 23 built-in stitches. You get 6 basic, 12 decorative, 4 stretch, and 1 buttonhole style stitch.
There is another difference between the two machines. Singer 4423 doesn’t come with the bonus heavy duty optimized accessories that you get with Singer 4452. These include an even feed/walking foot, a 5-pack of size 16 needles, a clearance plate, and a non-stick foot.
Most of the features are the same on both machines. Both of them have an internal metal skeleton and are made mostly out of metal. Hence, they are similar in terms of durability.
Both machines also boast of the same sewing speed (up to 1100 stitches per minute).
This is a decent option if you feel that 23 stitches will be more than enough for you. It could also serve you well if you don’t really care for the heavy duty accessories. You can save a little more money by buying Singer 4423 in that case.
Singer 4452 is a mechanical sewing machine. This means that all the functions have to be manually set and operated. Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 is a computerized heavy duty sewing machine.
A computerized sewing machine sews more accurately than a mechanical machine. Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 has 600 built-in stitches. So you also have a lot of choices when it comes to stitching styles. You will receive 13 presser foot attachments that contribute to the machine’s versatility.
Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 can sew up to 850 stitches per minute. Unlike Singer 4452, you get a speed control slider to set your desired sewing speed.
It does come at a higher price point than Singer 4452. But if you want more features, then this could be a great option.
On Singer 4452, you can’t sew very thick fabrics. I don’t think it’s even a good idea to try sewing more than 2 layers of thick leather or other similar fabric on it. On Juki TL-2010Q, you can sew just about anything. It can handle multiple layers of the thickest fabric. It won’t even let out as much as a mumble.
This is my top recommendation for professional sewers. It is the best heavy duty sewing machine out there. You just can’t beat the stitch quality Juki TL-2010Q offers.
Of course, a premium machine retails at a higher price point. This machine might or might not fit within your current budget. However, it was worth a mention here. I can’t recommend it highly enough if you are planning to build a business around your sewing projects.
Juki TL-2010Q has no match when it comes to sturdiness, reliability, and stitch quality. It sews smoothly and evenly. However, it is a straight-stitch only machine.
If you want a premium heavy duty sewing machine, then this is the one I would recommend. It will stand by you for years. It can handle any projects with ease.
Singer 4452 is a wonderful option for anyone who is in the market for an affordable heavy duty sewing machine. It is feature-packed, sturdy and durable.
I have found that Singer 4452 is suitable for a wide range of projects. You can do both regular and heavy duty sewing on it. It comes with a lot of helpful accessories that assist with heavy duty sewing. The sewing speed is comparable with some of the best machines out there.
Overall, this machine is a great option for the home/hobby sewer.
